Hisham
Abad, Ph.D.
Professor of Physics
Curriculum Vitae
Professor Hisham Abad earned his Ph.D. degree in Physics from the University of
Illinois at Chicago in 1991. The topic of his PhD dissertation was on the
determination of the optical properties of semiconductors by the use of
spectroscopic ellipsometry (SE).
After graduation, Dr. Abad won the prestigious
National Research Council Post Doctoral Fellowship, completed at the US Naval
Research Laboratory. During this period, and in later employment as associate
research professor at the University of Illinois at Chicago, Dr. Abad worked on
the growth of advanced semiconducting and metallic thin films by molecular beam
epitaxy (MBE), and on the in-situ characterization of such films by SE.
Dr. Abad has more than 40 scientific publications and presentations. His current
research interests include the growth of thin films for solar cell applications,
the use of SE and other optical methods for the in-situ characterization of MBE
growth processes, and research on fresh water resources and the protection of
the environment. Dr. Abad taught physics courses at the University of Illinois
at Chicago and the University of the United Arab Emirates.
