Dr.
Zhao Yong
Associate Professor of Mechanical Engineering
Curriculum Vitae
Dr. Zhao Yong joined Alfaisal University in 2010 and currently serves as
Associate Professor of Mechanical Engineering in the college of Engineering.
Previously he was with Nanyang Technological University (NTU), Singapore, where
he worked from 1992 to 2009, as a research fellow, lecturer, assistant professor
and associate professor. He received research funding exceeding $10 million and
trained more than 20 graduate students and researchers. He was also a
coordinator/director for student industrial attachment and polytechnic outreach
in the Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering and on the university
steering committee for industrial Attachment.
He obtained his Ph.D. in 1992 and MSc. In 1989 from the University of Manchester
in UK in Mechanical Engineering on a Sino-British Friendship Scholarship.
His research interest is in computational fluid dynamics (CFD) and scientific
computing and their engineering applications, such as fluid-structure
interaction, data storage devices, biomedical engineering, internal combustion
engines, fuel cells and renewable energy using CFD as a design tool. Together
with his collaborators, He has received substantial research grants from
governments and private sectors. And he has also been serving industrial
companies as a consultant, working on racing car engine design, tidal turbine
design/development, building services engineering and aero engine modification
programme. He has received a number of awards for his research work, including
The Blue Challenge bronze award from IBM in 2002, a Cray Quest gold award from
Silicon Graphics in 2000 and a MIT conference fellowship from the 2nd MIT
conference on Computational Fluid and Solid Mechanics in 2003.
He has published about 90 research papers, many of them in top journals, such as
Journal of Computational Physics and International Journal of Numerical Methods
in Engineering. Some of his papers have been selected as top 25 hottest papers
in the Journal of Computational Physics. He is also on the editorial board of
the Journal of Engineering Applications of Computational Fluid Mechanics. He has
co-organized and chaired many international conferences and been invited for
presentations at many seminars and conferences. He has co-authored the first
ever McGraw-Hill fluid flow handbook which covers micro- and nano-scale fluid
flow.
Dr. Zhao Yong has been appointed as an overseas reviewer for the Chang Jiang
Scholars (Professors) Programme, the Ministry of Education, PR China from 2008.
He was appointed as a Honorary Professor at Nanjing University of Aeronautics
and Astronautics and Southwest Jiaotong University, PR China, a visiting
Professor at Iowa State University and Michigan State University ,USA.
