Dr.
William C. Lathen, PhD, CPA Professor of Accounting and Acting Dean
Curriculum Vitae
Dr. Bill Lathen has a PhD in Business Administration, Tax Accounting
emphasis from Arizona State University. He has a Masters of Taxation from
The University of Texas at Austin and a Bachelor’s of Science Accounting
degree from Brigham Young University, all of which are in the U.S. Dr.
Lathen also has earned the Certified Public Accountant (CPA) professional
designation from the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants
(AICPA). Dr. Lathen is serving as the Acting Dean of the College of Business
and teaches accounting courses in both the MBA and undergraduate programs.
Dr. Lathen has over 30 years professional experience teaching at the
university level, working in a bank and preparing business and individual
tax returns. He is a gifted teacher. His areas of expertise include both
accounting and taxation. His academic experience includes 17 years of
serving as Dean for the College of Business and Department Chairman of
Accounting for Boise State University in Idaho, U.S. Dr. Lathen is an expert
in the international AACSB accreditation process, having participated in
reviewing numerous schools for accreditation and serving on the
international accreditation committee.
Dr. Lathen has published numerous refereed journal and non-refereed articles
and conference presentations throughout his career. Most of his research has
focused on U.S. federal tax issues, though he is currently working on a
research article about gift planning for non-resident citizens and
residents.
Serving as Dean in the U.S., Dr. Lathen helped create a college of business
at National Economics University in Hanoi, Vietnam. He has participated in a
Governor’s Trade Mission to Asia, developed an educational partnership with
the University of Heidelberg, and was a visiting professor at the University
of Ireland, Galway. Dr. Lathen is thrilled and honored to serve the Kingdom
of Saudi Arabia’s people while at Alfaisal University.
